Nokia phone bomb

Nokia_bomb Here’s an image taken from a soldier in Iraq of a Nokia phone being used as a remote trigger for a bomb! It seems that the trigger can be rendered useless by GSM jamming. Read more here. (Via: Boing Boing)

Toshiba’s flatbed 3d display

Flatbed_3d Image of Toshibas new 3d holographic like technology. The tin bottle on the bottom right is real. Pretty cool if you ask me, I suppose this is the first step towards the reality of 3d holographic images. (via: Engadget)

US military elite hacker crew JFCCNW

Last month the US Senate Armed Services Committee revealed the existence of a unit called the Joint Functional Component Command for Network Warfare, or JFCCNW.  What this group of super hackers can do is highly classified but they can probably destroy enemy networks, penetrate enemy computers to steal or manipulate data.  They might be able to even control enemy weapons!!  One story about an ex-military hacker  tells of how the hacker set off enemy radars prior to an attack so that they have no idea what is happening or what was coming.

These guys sound really cool, but there has been some controversy surrounding the issue of does the JFCCNW have the mandate or authority to warden cyberspace.  Read the full story here (Via: Wired)

Sleeptracker Watch

Sleeptracker There seems to be a lot of sleep related watches coming out these days.  This one monitors your sleep then wakes up during the right point in your sleep cycle so that you wake up refreshed instead of waking up in the middle of deep sleep and feeling really nasty all day. Air Scooter II

Airscooter Created by inventor Elwood ”Woody” Norris who first developed high-end stereo speakers recently created the Air Scooter II. The Air Scooter II can hover and fly at a speed of 55knots, weights around 300 pounds and won’t require a pilots license to fly. Similar to a helicopter but allegedly easier to fly this toy is going to be released sometime this year for around US50,000. (Via: Engadget)

Minority Report Navigation Gloves

Navgloves Remember those gloves that Tom Cruise used in Minority Report? Everyone thought DAMN those are cool!  It seems that those gloves are in development for military purposes, they would allow the military to parse through more information faster during the heat of a battle. Read about it here.  (via:engadget)

SV-6 PC Viewer

Sv6  It may look like a VR goggle type hardware but its not. The SV-6 can be attached to regular glasses and show anything that would be displayed on a 640 x 480 screen. Watch the video on the product page here. This reminds me of some equipment a super thief or spy would be using while on a mission impossible. I could just see kids sitting in class looking directly at the teacher with notebooks in there desks playing all sorts of games while keeping an eye on class. Check out the video!!  Check out Micro Optical (Via: Stephen)

Remote Control Flies!

Fly Yale scientist have created a remote control system to control flies. By contolling specific neurons by lasers the scientist can force fruit flies to jump, walk or fly!  This might be great for keeping flies away without having to swat them, however the point of the study is to discover if “isolated-neuron stimulation could be used to control basic motor activies and even more complex behavior.”  If the scientist can successfully map and understand the connection between electrical currents and muscle movements, we may be on the verge of a major biological break through in understanding how the human body works. Scary though for the future, girlfriends controlling their boyfriends on remote control, “I SAID PUT THE TOILET SEAT UP!!ZAAAAAP”. (Via: Slashdot)

Cybernetic Arms Coming Soon

Hand I’ve never heard of Darpa before but it seems they are “the Pentaon’s blue-sky research division”.  They are currently pushing for a neurally controlled artificial limb that could act exactly like a hand, doing things as delicate as writing and being able to hold up to 60 pounds.  What scares me is that this sort of research is being done by the military driven factions instead of medical ones.  Read the original story at defensetec.org.  (Via:Gizmodo)
