Giant Bomb Launch!

Logohome
I'm not usually THAT excited about new websites launching but Giant Bomb run by a bunch Jeff Gerstmann and a few other ex-gamespot staff who left after the whole Kane and Lynch fiasco.  I've read gamespot for nearly 10 years and they were definitely my go to reviewers for games.  Not sure how I feel about the wiki style content generation but there is a bunch of interesting game data on there so it will be interesting to see what kinda fun facts the borg mind of Giant Bomb turns up, hopefully the main few editors content will remain the same high quality and they start getting those early copies of games to review.  I've already grabbed both the usernames I want, one strangely enough being shoulderbutton.  Good Luck Giant Bomb

Giant Bomb! - where the gamespot editors have gone!

Giantbomb
Seems Jeff Gerstmann and Ryan Davis started up a new site.  Wonder if Alex Navaro and Brad Shoemaker and everyone from Gamespot that made that site great will be going over.  Check it out here

Yanko Design - hacked!

Yanko_hacked
Wow, one of the websites I like checking out a lot got hacked. Check it out here (unless they fixed it by the time you read this).  Guess the owner of the site was doing really well or made the wrong enemies.

EGM Bankrupt! - scary

Egm_fabio
Came across this here at Kotaku.  Seems Ziff Davis the owners of EGM magazine, Games for Windows mag, and 1up.com have filed for bankruptcy.  Seems the company has a huge 1 billion dollar dept that they can't make interest payments on.

MAN I hope that 1up.com is still ok, with the state of gamespot its the only decent review site out there, somehow I find IGN too generous.  Well there is always Metacritics.

1up Grades vs 1-10 - conspiracy theory against Metacritics

1up has taken an interesting approach going with Grades vs established 1-10 point system.  Apparently all grades translate to points anyhow with A+ being 10 then going down through the grades being lower and lower points.

My conspiracy theory is that given the popularity of websites like Metacritics, 1up is trying to make there grading system different so that they don't fit into the Metacritics mold.  Message from 1up to Metacritics, "STOP STEALING OUR TRAFFIC!!!!"

Cookthink - a cool site

Cookthink
Cookthink is a website I came across this website here at TechCrunch.  Described as the Pandora for Recipes I can see this website being really successful if it actually works like Pandora.

Basic idea for someone who's never used Pandora.  You tell cookthink what your in the mood for, or what basic ingredients you have at home to use.  Then the website will spew out some possible recipes for you to cook up.  Haven't tried it myself yet, but I'm sure this could be a great cooking aid for those who love to cook, but never know what to make!

Gamespot - what a shame

I used to live and die by Gamespot for all my gaming reviews, but since all the well documented madness I've more or less given up on the site, all the really funny people with baditude have gone, the new Editor in Chief Ricardo Torres is a long time Gamespoter and perhaps one of the originals but I've never really enjoyed his laid back style.  I've since moved on to 1up for all my gaming review and rather enjoy how short they are.
