Panasonic BL-PA100KTA - WiFi extension cord

Panasonic_bl_pa100kta
Came across this here at OhGizmo.  The other day I was having a chat to a friend of mine on how to increase wifi signal strength around a Hong Kong apartment.  It seems these are a popular solution in across Asia as we've got so many damn concrete walls in our apartments!

The long and short of it, if you have a Wifi point set up at home, and no signal in one particular room, just plug this device into a power outlet and it can essentially act as a extension cord for your wifi signal!

Grow - Ivy like Solar cells GO GREEN!

Grow
Came across this here at OhGizmo.  This is basically a system of Polaroid sized solar panels that can be clipped into a wall and wired up to  harness whatever sun energy it can sap!  Doesn't look to shabby as an Ivy like surface and should be easily placed on many building surfaces.  Wonder how it would handle wind, snow and rain.  Sounds like something for sunny dessert cities!

Zen "Sandbox" Active Surface 3d computer interface - Probably Nintendo's next secret

Zenpc1
I came across this here at OhGizmo!  Seems everything I see I can only see the cool factor for a video game interface.  Seems this concept technology can essentially mold its sandbox like interface into a keyboard with braille, piano keys and I'm sure it could make a lot of other interesting surface interfaces, chess board pieces, RTS control icons, breast for hentai games.  If anyone can actually produce and use this it would probably be Nintendo.

E-Paper slap braclets - Future Nintendo Console device!

Epaper_series

Now I'm a bit confused about this one, but it seems that this slap bracelet uses E-paper and can function as some sort of MP4 player.  Designed by Raytheon  at Chocolate this concept seems to be the winner of a 'reddot design award'.  I may be wrong and this product is in production already but it seems that it doesn't even require charging as it recharges on kinetic energy!

It seems everyone wants to be the next iPhone making a sexy ass product, I could see this bracelet being used for oh so wrong reasons.  Animated Hentai Porn on the wrist of someone trying to set some sort of new fashion trend.  America's favorite past time being litigation and arbitration that poor sod will get slapped (pun intended) with some sexual harassment law suit.  Next thing you know Fox "news" has a panel of experts debating the issue ala Mass Effect Scandal.

Cynicism aside, this sorta product has gaming peripheral written all over it.  Remember the dream cast memory card, you could pick your sports plays on your own controller so that no one else could see what you were choosing?  Ok so I know that people don't go over to other peoples homes to play games that much anymore as we've all got Xbox Live, but stay with me.  Imagine trying to keep your balance in some ridiculous pose for Wii Fit, now imagine your wrist display telling you that you've got to lower your left hand to balance your pose better.  You probably get where I'm heading with this, maybe my brain is always full of game ideas, but this could be something cool.  If it was  PS3 peripheral people would scoff, slap some Nintendo branding on there and its a winner.

Olympus SP 570 UZ - fingers crossed!

Olympus_570
First off let me say that I've owned 2 Olympus digital cameras in the past.  Once upon a time I did own a Canon Eos 50 SLR and did took some photography classes in University, but I am by no means a great photographer.

One of the few things that stuck with me from those university classes was this; learning how to use a camera and all those picky details is something that you can learn on your own time but nothing is more important than framing an composition.

Like everyone else I'll go to dpreview.com and read some reviews on any camera I'm considering but when it really comes down to it, I can't tell the difference in quality.  I end up chucking all my photos on my hard drive, never taking them out and only very occasionally putting some photos up on facebook.

I'm not one too scrutinize my photos to the extend where I appreciate the difference in purple fringing or better noise reduction.  But I am very keen on good performance on convenience.  I've always liked Olympus for packing a whole lot of punch into a small form factor and now with the whole super zoom compact trend I'm hoping this is the next camera for me.

Let me explain, I want a camera with wide angle for interior photos, good performance in low light (which might mean me buying the Fuji S800fd instead) big zoom, so that I can take pictures when i go climbing, and easy to carry around (no lenses,no hassle).

If you hope onto flickr and look at photos taken with similar super zoom cameras you'll notice that they are amazing and often look as good as D-SLR photos.  With 4 Months till my honeymoon I've got to decide on something, will this be my all in one iPhone like digital camera or will i cave in and get a Canon 400.  Really hope this is the camera for me, fingers crossed!

Bachelor Pad Worthy – Sony's "hide-and-seek" Bravia TAV-L1

Tavl1grn
This Sony All in One TV looks pretty sweet.  Reminds me of the B&O TV and DVD in one.  If your setting up a bachelor pad, you definately will choose looks over a lot of things.  With this package you get yourself a flat screen 32 inch with a DVD player and a hifi all in one.  The kicker is that its Sony so your pretty much going to get quality stuff across the board.  Generally all in one's scare me but if your apartment is cramped for space and you really want that WOW factor this is the unit for you.  Due out in October in a variety of colours, keep your eye out for this one.  Read more here (via: Engadget)

Bachelor Pad Worthy – DIY Jug 5.1 Speakers

Jug_speaker_2_1
Carlo Rossi is a wine maker and interior designer.  As you can imagine with that sort of combination the man found some use for all his extra wine bottles and jugs making furniture and what not.  The most interesting thing that can be found on his site however is a set of instructions on how to make a 5.1 speaker system out of jugs.  Looks a lot like those JBL speakers that all Mac phanatics use.  Check out Carlo Rossi here (via:Makezine)

Zune the iPod of Social Networking??

Microsoft_zune_player

Zune has been floating around the internet for a while now. Seems that this Microsoft driven product is not only an iPod killer but its going to create for Microsoft yet another bridge for there new ‘Live Anywhere’ platform, portable social networking. Not too sure how this will work but basically it will be able to play mp3, look at “MySpace” type social network pages and one would assume some basic video gaming if its ‘Live Anywhere’. News on the street is that this machine will cost $399US!! That's the cost of an Xbox 360, but a lot cheaper than a mini notebook. Is it me or are all new portable products aiming to be slick looking, simple access portable computers. Read more here and here (via Engadget & Joystiq)

E-ink news reading revolution on the way?

Paper_eink

PDA’s were suppose to replace the need for books, that didn’t really happen, why because screens can be very tiring on the eye if you stare at them for too long. However with the recent e-ink  about to drop behind Sony’s e-ink reader even big names like the New York Times is buying into the idea of distributing on e-ink readers. AlphaGrip AG-5 - All in one keyboard trackball

Alphagrip
This is what a keyboard would look like if your keyboard and trackball were all jammed into your 360 controller (front and back). This crazy looking keyboard and trackball in one requires you to learn a new way of typing, BUT you sure will look like some super hacker from the future, even though anyone who buys this is most likely going to be sitting in an easy chair plugged into WoW.  Maybe one of the next generation systems should look into this sort of controller.  Check it out here (via:Oh!Gizmo)
