Rollertoaster - A breakfast center piece

This is definately a toaster that you wouldn't want to hide away in the kitchen if you decided to get one.  Thing restaurant industrial toaster that has a sleek look of a compact scanner and you got the Rollertoaster designed by Jaren Goh.  You can check it out here, from what I can tell though it doesn't seem to be commercially available just yet.

This would make your otherwise uneventuful breakfast session into something magical, as long as you can keep the kids fingers out of this toaster I'm sure children would have a riot with this thing.  Somehow this thing just feels like your cooking toast instead of putting bread in a toaster. Gears of War, the new Contra

Unfortunately I've yet to play Gears of War beyond the demo booth of a 360 stand due to the sad unfortunate fact that I don't own a 360....YET.

However I can confidently say that Gears of War is the new Contra.  The action game we've been waiting for with big cool guns, common nothing beats the spread gun!! Lots of dodging and incredible co-op play vs the level.  I'm probably not the only one to think this either.  Too bad life regenerates in Gears of War, it would have been hilarious to see a baked chicken leg on the floor that players can eat to replenish life!

Collusor - The Ultimate Party Game/ Coffee Table Show Piece

I first came across this game at a friends house last year.  Its a game based on some pretty amazing physics principles where through the use of inertia and momentum you can get the steel ball to roll upwards between the 2 steel shafts.  The goal of the game is to roll the ball as far up the 2 shafts as possible then drop the ball into the ladder like score slots below.  Designed by Molcik- Design this is German Engineering making useless gadgets at its best.

Having one of these on your coffee table is like having a rubix cube sitting on your coffee table.  Everyone will want to touch it, play with it but not everyone will actually get it.  Ok so this is a lot easier to get than a rubix cube but it definately looks cooler and you get points for having something new for other people to play with.  Think of it like having a Wii while everyone else has 360.

If you've got a bunch of friends over then you can make a drinking game out of it as well.  After seeing one at my friends house I was lucky enough to come across one in a department store outlet and pick it up for a fraction of its price.  If your interested in one of these you should probably go check out some high end department stores or check out the german website here.  Collusor will cost you around 100 US depending on where you get it but its fun, looks cool and rather addictive.

What to Buy? Wii? 360? BOTH?!?

I'm stuck studying at home for my Hong Kong Institute of Architects Licensing examination for mid Decemeber.  So as any gamer fanboy would during his studying down time I've spent a ridiculous amount of time online watching video reviews for every game that scores above an 8 at gamespot.

Firstly let me just say I'm a Nintendo Fanboy and I've been screaming REVOLUTION ever even before the Wii was called Wii.  But lately you just can not deny the sexiness of 'Gears of War'.  PS2 ass raped Xbox in terms of exclusive deals but now the 360 has got a stellar looking line up and a not so ricidulous price tag.  So my vote goes to 360 over PS3, so now I've got a small dilema.  After my exams end I'll be buying one of these systems.  Now I'm probably going to get a Wii sooner or later but should I wait for the HK version to be released??  I did call Nintendo HK but there was no news on when or IF there is to be a HK release and that at the moment they are only following the Japanese release.

I can't read Japanese, hell I can't even read Chinese (but i'm working on it).  So all signs point to me buying an American Wii.  But I really want a warrenty and I really don't want to have to use a transformer for me Wii.  So shall I spend my money on a 360 to hold me down till a possible HK release in a few months?  Even if there is no release at least the Wii will be cheaper!

Mouse and Keyboard for Xbox 360??

Seems a company called XCM is working on a prodcut that will allow you to plug your mouse and keyboard and or even PS2 controller into the 360!  I always thought there was a strong argument for Mouse and Keyboard over Dual Analog but this has got to be the strongest argument to date.  No actual date set for the release of this adaptor but suffice to say if all of a sudden your getting owned in all manner of FPS games you'll know that its out.  Read more here

Wii Remote Strap snaps resulting in a cracked TV

As with all launches of new consoles there are bound to be some reports of problems that travel like wild fire around the internet to deter people from buying the new console.  This is definately a problem that is distinct to the Nintendo Wii.  While playing Wii Sports Bowling Jon Leonard's Wii remote strap snapped and he bowled with such might that the Wii-mote launched into the TV resulting in a hige crack.  Jon is not blaming Nintendo nor is he out for a new TV but I guess thought he thought it was amusing and took pictures and posted on the internet for all of us to enjoy.  Read more here

Earphone Reviews: B&O A8 vs Pioneer Cl30 vs Sennheiser CX300

Over the past 3 years I’ve owned only these 3 earphones so I’ve decided to write a brief review on them. 

I’ve had the B&O A8 the longest, they have great sound quality, bass is full, mids are clear and highs are just about right. They look pretty nice but there are a few problems I have with them. Firstly the earphones come with foam covers for the actual ear buds, they make the whole experience of wearing these headphones more comfortable. However these foam covers are thin and are definitely going to tear, and when you wear these earphone without foam covers it can get painful.

The second problem I’ve got with these earphones is that if you wear them for a really long time, it gets kinda painful, but that might just be my ears. When using them for a short time you can barely feel them on your ears and its fantastic but for me I just can’t wear them that long.

The last little gripe I have with these earphones is that well they’re difficult to take on and off. If you expect to yank out your earphones to answer a question or two every few minutes these earphone can become quite troublesome to be using. As a result the A8’s have been relegated to the earphones of choice when I go out for a jog or a work out because they stay put when your moving about.

The first in-ear channel earphones I’ve ever owned is the Pioneer CL30. I bought these in Japan while I was living there and I had read no reviews at all. I lucked out. The first thing you notice with in-ear channel earphones is that you don’t need to turn the volume as high and the base is a LOT more full than other earphones.

The sound quality is great I’d have to say that considering these earphones are quite cheap they have really great mids and really crisp highs, however now that I’m used to in-ear channel earphones I can say that the bass is a bit on the weak side, but overall these ear phones are very well balanced when it comes to sound quality.

The gripes I have with these earphones are that it comes with the short cable design with extension cable. My extension cable died on me a few months ago then recently my short cable died on me forcing me to research and but new earphones, more on that in a minute. Some people may like the short cable design but I personally don’t like hanging my mp3 player around my neck so the short cable doesn’t do it for me at all.

With the death of my CL30’s I elected to purchase the Sennheiser CX300s. They’ve been receiving great reviews and they weren’t as expensive as the really expensive Shure or Ultimate Ear earphones. The CX300 earphones are highly reviewed by user reviews all over the net right now. Lots of noise about strong bass, light weight construction and great price point. Mostly I agree. The bass is incredibly strong, however the mids seem a bit muddy and the highs are a touch too loud, making it sometimes painful. The built quality is fantastic and really comfortable to wear, however the rubber nibs of the CX300 seem really cheap, so much so that I yanked the rubber nibs off my broken Pioneer’s and placed them on the CX300’s.

I listen to a lot of bass heavy music such as drum and bass and hip hop. However when I was listening to broken beat music I found that the Pioneer’s had better sound quality in the mid and high range. Another thing I’ve noticed is that with the CX300’s you don’t really need to turn up the volume as much, I’ve read in some review that they are more efficient and I can confirm that as on my Sony NW-E507 I could turn the volume down a notch. However the battery life on Sony’s saving a little bit of juice really didn’t make that big a difference to me.

In conclusion I’ve got to say that if you don’t mind the short cable/ extension cable configuration, the larger size and chrome finish look of the Pioneer CL30’s. I would give the edge to the CL30’s over the Sennheiser CX300’s. The CX300’s have a better built quality and a robust bass, however the sound quality of the CL30’s over all is slightly better and oh yeah they’re cheaper but I'll probably forget about the comparison in another month or so
